The Tax Authority is still processing requests for tuition fee refunds, with a total of 91,585 applications processed so far.

Key Statistics

  • Out of these, 79,578 applications were validated, leading to 74,917 payments, amounting to a total of €68.8 million.

Eligibility Criteria

The salary bonus, part of the 2024 State Budget, is available for young people up to 35 years old who reside and work in Portugal. To qualify, applicants must have completed their bachelor's or master's degree at public or private higher education institutions, either national or foreign, by 2023 or earlier, but less than the duration of the course.

Payment Details

The refund translates to an annual payment of €697 for a bachelor’s degree and €1,500 for a master’s degree, paid for the duration equivalent to the course length. For instance, a three-year bachelor’s degree would yield three annual payments of €697 each. Payments for validated requests are processed by the Tax Authority via bank transfer using the banking details registered on the Finance Portal.
