Upcoming Book Launch in Lisbon

On Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30 PM, the book “Tu Fazes Parte” will be presented at the Amphitheater II of the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon. This work is a tribute to the remarkable journey of João Bonifácio Serra (1948–2023), a historian, professor at ESAD.CR in Caldas da Rainha, former head of the Civil House of President Jorge Sampaio, and president of Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture.

The event will be graced by the presence of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who has also contributed one of the texts included in the book. He joins 92 authors who share memories, reflections, poems, images, and even unpublished artistic creations in tribute to the man who made citizenship his mission.

The phrase “Tu fazes parte”, coined by João B. Serra, is the central theme of the publication, summarizing his vision of active, plural, and deeply participative citizenship. The book is coordinated by José Pedro Castanheira, Deolinda Pereira de Barros, José Gameiro, Jorge Simões, and Nicolau Borges.

In addition to the President, the launch will feature speeches from journalist José Pedro Castanheira and professor Augusto Nascimento. “Tu Fazes Parte” is published by Tinta-da-China and compiles testimonies from politicians, academics, former students, friends, and family. It also includes texts by the honoree, notably his last lesson as a teacher and a children's story dedicated to his grandchildren.
