Albufeira's Presence at IFTM 2023
Albufeira made a notable appearance at the IFTM – International & French Travel Market, which is recognized as the largest tourism fair in France, held from September 17 to 19, 2023, in Paris.
This year's fair attracted over 20,000 visitors and showcased 500 exhibitors, focusing on travel and tourism, particularly business and event tourism. The event featured participation from over 170 destinations, 1,400 brands, and brought together 30,000 professionals, including 80 conferences over the three days.
The municipality returned to the IFTM in collaboration with APAL – Agência de Promoção de Albufeira, represented at a 18m2 stand that included partners such as AP Hotels, Zoomarine, Algarexperience, Hóteis Real, Apartamentos do Parque, Luna Hóteis, Rocamar, Deltamar, MGM, and Falésia Hotel.
José Carlos Rolo, the mayor, emphasized the significance of Albufeira's participation, highlighting that France ranks as the 5th largest source of tourists globally, accounting for 54.9 million trips in 2023, according to Globaldata.
He noted that France was the 4th largest tourist market for Portugal in terms of external demand, both in overnight stays and guest numbers. The data shows a 6.5% increase in overnight stays by French tourists and a 7.4% increase in guest numbers from the previous year, totaling 4.7 million overnight stays and 1.7 million guests. The mayor considers it crucial to stimulate and consolidate the interest of French tourists in Albufeira.
