André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), announced that the international promotion of the Algarve is gaining momentum this March, with a focus on the United States as a key target market.

International Focus

Gomes stated, "This month, we are paying special attention to the U.S., a market with significant growth potential in both leisure and business tourism. We are continuously investing here. Our participation in initiatives such as SMU International and exclusive events in Boston and New York, in collaboration with SATA and United Airlines, are concrete steps towards strengthening our ties with the North American market."

Diversified Offerings

The ATA remains committed to diversifying its offerings, promoting segments such as nature tourism, sports tourism, and business tourism through various specialized events. Gomes emphasized the goal of evolving the Algarve into a global reference destination, attracting new markets and consolidating high-value segments.

Upcoming Events

  • The ATA recently participated in the Fiets & Wandelbeurs in Belgium and will be present at the ITB Berlin from March 4-6.
  • A press visit organized by The Guardian will bring British journalist Amelia Duggan to the Algarve from March 3-6 to cover Tavira.
  • From March 10-12, the ATA will attend the SMU International workshop in New York, focusing on business tourism. Networking opportunities will arise with potential clients, including agencies and associations from the U.S. and Canada.
  • Between March 12-13, the ATA will participate in the Hosted Buyers program at BTL 2025, receiving a select group of 20 operators from 11 different markets for guided tours.
  • The Algarve Residential initiative will run from March 22 to April 13, inviting partners for an immersive experience to strengthen the Algarve's position in the European golf market.

Additional Highlights

  • Participation in Sports & Events Europe in Málaga from March 25-27 to promote the Algarve's sports tourism offerings.
  • An exclusive event in Boston on March 25 to promote routes between Boston Logan and Faro.
  • On March 27, the ATA will collaborate with United Airlines to promote new routes to Faro and Funchal.
  • The ATA will support a visit from Belgian travel agency directors on March 28 and a familiarization trip for Austrian agents.
  • A press visit for golf writer David J. White will take place from March 23-28 to cover Lisbon and the Algarve for Met Golfer in the USA.
