Algarve Tourism's Bold Move to Iceland
Algarve Tourism is set to showcase its stunning destination in Iceland on April 3rd, coinciding with the launch of the new Faro-Reykjavik flight route starting on April 12. This exciting event is organized in collaboration with PLAY Airlines and will welcome 50 participants, including travel agents, tour operators, and Icelandic journalists.
The primary goal of this initiative is to highlight Algarve's potential as a premier destination for this new market. The region aims to enhance its year-round appeal, showcasing a diverse range of offerings that extend beyond just sun and sea. According to the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), this route will create new connections with key markets like the USA and Canada. Currently, PLAY Airlines operates from cities such as Baltimore, Boston, New York, Washington D.C., and Toronto, facilitating increased access for American tourists to the Algarve region.
André Gomes, president of Algarve Tourism, stated, "The establishment of this route is the result of ongoing collaboration with the airline and Faro airport, presenting a strategic opportunity for our destination." He added, "The arrival of PLAY Airlines at Faro enhances Algarve's status as a globally accessible and diverse destination. We are confident that this new route will boost tourist flows from North America, a key market we have been focusing on for the region."
