Rent Prices Linked to Salaries
A new housing initiative in Cascais aims to support displaced teachers by providing affordable accommodation. One of the newly acquired properties, valued at €1.4 million, will house several teachers, with rental prices starting as low as €150 depending on salary levels.
On Monday, four homes were inaugurated, designed to accommodate 16 teachers, with additional housing options for those moving with families. The rental market in Cascais is currently facing a shortage, with prices having more than doubled in 2023, prompting the local government to step in and purchase more homes.
While it’s unclear if the current housing supply will meet demand—given that nearly 300 teachers were displaced in Cascais last year—the municipality's strategy also extends to offering affordable housing for doctors and security forces.
