Political Stability in Madeira

The leader of CDS-Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, emphasized the importance of political stability and governance in the region. He acknowledged that there have been errors and omissions related to the August wildfires that need to be investigated. If proven true, he stated that the ruling party, PSD, should take appropriate political actions, including replacing individuals who need to be replaced.

Commitment to Partnership

Speaking at the traditional political event in Chão dos Louros, Rodrigues asserted that he will not undermine the parliamentary partner, as he sees no justification for doing so. He described CDS as a reliable party and indicated a willingness to continue supporting the social democrats, even rejecting a potential motion of censure.

Call for Accountability

Despite the CDS proposing an independent technical commission to investigate possible negligence in fire management, Rodrigues left it to Miguel Albuquerque, the regional president, to address parliamentary questions directly, stating, "I prefer that he decides."

Future Legislative Priorities

Rodrigues outlined key priorities for the new legislative session, including:

  • Strengthening autonomy
  • Revising the regional finance law
  • Implementing tax reductions and increasing family income
  • Establishing a social concertation agreement with subsidies for insularity
  • Providing incentives for young residents

National Party Absence

Notably absent were national party members, yet Rodrigues insisted there are no signs of a rupture, stating, "on the contrary."
