Drivers from SMTUC Present Petition at Coimbra City Hall

The Local Administration Workers' Union has called for 44 days of strikes affecting the Urban Transport of Coimbra, starting with two days from Monday and Tuesday, February 10 and 11, and escalating throughout the months until September, coinciding with the municipal elections.

The drivers are advocating for important changes in their working conditions. According to driver JoĂŁo Soares, they are fighting to regain their lost positions, specifically the unique agent role, which has been replaced by operational assistants. This longstanding issue has been a significant concern for years. They are also seeking the allocation of a subsidy from the government or city council to alleviate their situation, as promised by the city president.

The drivers circulated a petition to bring attention to their plight, stating, "Copies will be delivered today to the city president, and tomorrow we will take the same petition to the official residence of the Prime Minister to resolve our situation."

They have requested a meeting with the city council and were informed that José Manuel Silva would receive them regarding the petition.
