Collaborative Workshop on Wildfire Management
The AMAL (Intermunicipal Community of Algarve) organized a collaborative workshop in partnership with the Municipality of Tavira, focusing on the FIREPOCTEP+ project and the development of the Intermunicipal Fuel Management Plan of the Algarve (PIGCAlg).
The workshop took place on 23rd and 24th of this month, bringing together representatives from various sectors, including:
- Forestry and Environmental Associations
- Algarve Tourism Region
- ICNF (Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests)
- APA (Agency for the Environment)
- AGIF (Agency for Integrated Management of Forest Fire Risk)
- Pulp companies
- Municipal Forestry Offices
About the FIREPOCTEP+ Project
The FIREPOCTEP+ project aims to enhance the systems for wildfire prevention and extinction in the cross-border region between Spain and Portugal. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal 2021-2027 program.
Led by the University of Vigo, FIREPOCTEP+ has a total budget of €3,322,468.75 and will run for three years (from 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2026). It has a total of 15 beneficiaries from both Spain and Portugal, with the Intermunicipal Community of Algarve being one of the project partners.
Intermunicipal Fuel Management Plan
The Intermunicipal Fuel Management Plan of the Algarve will include various aspects, such as fire behavior simulation tools and optimization for fuel treatment locations. It is essential to incorporate the knowledge and priorities of local actors in defining management objectives and scheduling fuel management in strategic areas.
