LusĂadas Health Director Testifies

In a recent parliamentary inquiry regarding the treatment of children using one of the world's most expensive medications, Victor Almeida, the commercial director of LusĂadas SaĂşde, stated that he had no involvement in scheduling the medical appointment for the luso-Brazilian twins at a private hospital in Lisbon.
During the hearing, Almeida clarified that he never promised assistance to anyone and did not take any initiative to arrange the consultation, which was originally set for December 5, 2019, but was canceled shortly after. The children were subsequently treated within the National Health Service.
Almeida emphasized that he was only asked for the contact information of Dr. Teresa Moreno, the pediatric neurologist who would treat the twins, and he was unaware of any appointment being made five years ago.

“I did not schedule any appointment, nor did I cancel one. I was only requested to provide contact details for a doctor,” Almeida explained, noting that he lacks the necessary credentials in the internal system to do so.
The director, who has been with Lusíadas Saúde since 2009, mentioned that José Magro, a businessman with whom he collaborated in the Luso-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, asked for the doctor's contact information. Almeida later received an email from the children's mother, which he forwarded to Lusíadas Lisboa Hospital.
He also noted that he was not informed about the mother's insurance with Amil AssistĂŞncia MĂ©dica Internacional, a company related to LusĂadas, nor did he know if there were any savings for the insurer.
Furthermore, Almeida stated he does not know Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, the son of the President of the Republic, and has never encountered him in any professional setting.

Inquiry Committee Updates

At the start of the inquiry, the committee president announced that Chega had extended the investigation period by an additional 90 days, following André Ventura's announcement to the press. The inquiry is expected to continue until mid-March, with a suspension of activities from December 20 to January 6.
