Overview of the Cultural Initiatives Support Program

The Cultural Initiatives Support Program, launched in 2024, has provided assistance to 67 entities in the Algarve region, supporting a total of 90 projects across 13 municipalities over the past year.

The program, managed by the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of Algarve through its Cultural Unit, received 98 applications (48 focused on Creation/Production and 50 on Programming/Circulation) with proposals totaling approximately €400,000.

Project Highlights

Among the approved projects, there was a clear emphasis on multidisciplinary projects, with a notable presence of initiatives in the music sector. Ultimately, 90 projects were approved, with funding amounting to €172,433.07, resulting in a 98% financial execution rate.

In the Associativism area, two projects were supported in 2024, stemming from applications submitted in December 2023, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 128/2001 regulating cultural associativism support.

Support for Musical Associations

In 2024, six applications from philharmonic bands, music schools, and tunas were received, thanks to increased awareness of these supports by the CCDR’s Cultural Unit, with funding set to be available this year.

Protocol Agreements

The program established agreements with eight entities to support initiatives such as "A Day in Prehistory - Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar", the 13th edition of the Algarve Design Meeting, and the 17th International Organ Festival of Algarve.

Overall, the projects under the Cultural Initiatives Support Program that featured public presentations resulted in 239 sessions (177 for the general public and 62 for school audiences), reaching over 60,000 spectators. Notably, 29 projects aimed at youth involved 52 schools and attracted 4,792 viewers.

Under the provisions of the Statute of CCDR Algarve, the Cultural Unit is tasked with supporting local and regional cultural initiatives that are non-professional, aiming to address disparities in cultural access and enjoyment among the population.

The 2025 Support Program announcement is currently open for public consultation until April 3, with interested parties invited to submit contributions via email at cultura@ccdr-alg.pt.
