Lisbon's SMS Alert System
As part of its commitment to protect its citizens, Lisbon has introduced an SMS communication system that allows for notifications to be sent to residents. This system aims to inform all citizens of any risks affecting the capital, including how to act in emergencies, and updates on adverse weather conditions or technological anomalies.

Managed by the Municipal Civil Protection Service, this innovative communication channel allows for real-time SMS alerts to those who opt-in. Subscribers will receive updates on events that may disrupt the city's normal functioning, such as weather conditions, fires, earthquakes, or tsunamis, as well as warnings related to cyber threats and other dangers outlined in the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan.
What to Do in Case of Danger
The SMS alert system not only warns of imminent threats but also provides practical guidance on how to respond in emergencies. Recommendations include self-protection measures and safe behaviors to minimize risks associated with various types of threats. This initiative reflects the Lisbon City Council's commitment to enhance the city's resilience against natural and technological disasters.

The initiative aims to improve public safety and foster a culture of prevention among residents. Lisbon joins other cities that use such technology to protect their populations through a proactive approach to urban risk management.
Participation in the system is voluntary, but it is highly recommended for all residents who want to stay informed and prepared for potential emergencies. To subscribe, simply send a message with the text “AvisosLx” to the number 927944000. For more information on this free service, visit the Lisbon City Council website.
