A Hidden Paradise in Albufeira

In the heart of touristy Algarve, Albufeira is home to a secret beach that has recently gained recognition as one of the most beautiful hidden beaches in Europe for 2024. Known as Praia da Ponta Pequena, this stunning beach is located in São Rafael and is characterized by its difficult access. The European Best Destinations (EBA) has highlighted its charm, stating that it is "hidden in an open grotto that opens up to the sea with an arch of golden rocks."

Accessing the Beach

While the beach is not easily accessible, adventurous visitors can find a small trail leading to its sandy shores. Many travel sites recommend reaching the beach by boat or kayak, adding to the adventure. Surrounded by rocks, visitors must navigate through a small grotto to access the sea, where a unique opening in the grotto's ceiling allows for breathtaking views of the sky.

Other Notable Beaches

Alongside Praia da Ponta Pequena, two other Portuguese beaches have also been recognized by the EBA. One is João d’Arens in Portimão, which can only be visited at low tide and is more easily accessed by boat than by a trail through vegetation. The other is Alpertuche in the Arrábida National Park, which lacks road access and infrastructure, accommodating only 10 to 15 people at a time, requiring a trek between the sea and the mountains to reach.
