‘Alma de Lisboa’ has been announced as the theme for the 2025 Grande Marcha de Lisboa. This exciting news was revealed on the afternoon of January 8th during the award ceremony for the 2024 Marchas Populares. The President of Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, shared this information, highlighting its significance for the upcoming celebrations.
The Marchas Populares will interpret the theme ‘Alma de Lisboa’ in their performances, scheduled for the MEO Arena on May 30, 31, and June 1, with a grand parade on June 12-13 along Avenida da Liberdade.
In the previous edition, Alcântara took home the top prize with the theme “For more than the ink runs, Alcântara is the neighborhood with style,” inspired by local artists. Following Alcântara, Marvila and Alfama secured second and third places, respectively.
Awards were distributed for various categories, with Alcântara and Marvila winning for Best Choreography and Best Scenography, while Alfama earned accolades for Best Lyrics. The Best Original Composition was awarded to ‘Há festa na Bica’ and ‘Welcome! Bem-vindos à Mouraria!’. Alcântara also won for Best Parade.
For context, the 2024 theme was ‘O Tejo’, and for the 2025 event, 24 applications were submitted, including several from previous years. The selected marches will join the top 17 from 2024, ensuring a vibrant display of culture and creativity in Lisbon next year.
