A Coffee Lover's Dream

Cups lined up and techniques fine-tuned: This month, the World AeroPress Championship will take place for the first time in Portugal, revealing who masters the Aeropress. For two days, Lisbon will transform into the capital of specialty coffee.

From Controversy to Celebration

What began as exciting news soon sparked a debate: if Portugal is hosting this event for the first time, why was the coffee roasting responsibility given to Spain? Social media exploded with voices from Portuguese brands and factories, asserting that Portugal is indeed capable of roasting coffee. The organization listened and ultimately awarded the roasting to Olisipo Coffee.

The Competition

On September 20-21, at Suspenso Lisboa, the best baristas from 64 countries will compete for the world title. This event is more than just a competition—it's a celebration for caffeine enthusiasts. Besides the championship, there will be coffee tastings, product samples, machines, and everything related to this vibrant coffee culture.

The Portuguese representative has yet to be selected, as the national championship will occur on September 8 in Porto. However, the reigning champion, Tay Wipvasutt from Thailand, is confirmed to participate in Lisbon. Evaluation factors include coffee grind size, water temperature, infusion time, and pressure applied during extraction, all within a brief period.

Despite the seriousness of the World AeroPress Championship, the event is open to the public, inviting everyone to join in the festivities without formalities.

Location: Suspenso Lisboa, Rua de Santiago 19, Castelo (Lisbon). Date: September 20-21. Entry Fee: €20.
