In the parish of Caniçal, where the Nossa Senhora da Piedade festival is taking place, the event has drawn a large crowd. On the first day of the festival, which occurs this weekend, SANAS-Madeira conducted five emergency evacuations using the SANAS103 rescue boat.
Details of Evacuations
This lifesaving vessel, assigned to the Santa Cruz ESV, was actively involved in supporting the maritime procession on Saturday. The team provided assistance to five individuals:
- Three individuals were evacuated due to indisposition and did not require medical assistance.
- Two others were evacuated due to suspected trauma aboard fishing vessels. They were stabilized by the crew before being handed over to the Machico Firefighters for transport to a hospital.
Additional Rescue Operation
Additionally, a 30-year-old Portuguese woman was rescued after falling on the Ponta de São Lourenço trail. She was transferred to the Quinta do Lorde marina and subsequently taken to a hospital, presenting suspected trauma to her right leg.
