Five Prisoners Escape from Vale dos Judeus

Five men have successfully escaped from Vale dos Judeus prison in Alcoentre, Lisbon, with the assistance of individuals from outside the facility.
The escape reportedly involved the use of a ladder, enabling the prisoners to scale the six-meter wall and access the outside. According to the General Directorate for Reinsertion and Prison Services, an investigation is underway, and law enforcement has been notified to recapture the fugitives.
The escape was premeditated, as confirmed by Frederico Morais, president of the National Prison Guard Union, who noted that video surveillance footage shows three individuals aiding the escape: two who provided the ladder and one who waited in a vehicle.
The alert about the escape was raised at noon, coinciding with the discovery of the prisoners' absence. Morais criticized the Portuguese state for reducing investment in prison security, which previously included guard towers. He explained that the prison currently has around 120 guards, but due to shifts, only 20 to 30 are present at any time, overseeing approximately 500 inmates.
Morais highlighted the dangerous nature of the escaped prisoners, all of whom are subject to special security measures. The following individuals are currently on the run:

  • Fernando Ribeiro Ferreira – 61 years old, sentenced to 25 years for drug trafficking, criminal association, theft, robbery, and kidnapping;
  • Rodolf José Lohrmann – 59 years old, sentenced to 18 years and 10 months for criminal association, theft, robbery, false declarations, and money laundering;
  • Mark Cameron Roscaleer – 39 years old, sentenced to 9 years for kidnapping and robbery;
  • Shergili Farjiani – 40 years old, sentenced to 7 years for theft, violence after theft, and document forgery;
  • Fábio Fernandes Santos Loureiro – 33 years old, sentenced to 25 years for lesser drug trafficking, criminal association, extortion, money laundering, insult, qualified theft, resisting arrest, and coercion against officials.
