Important Announcement on Higher Education Access
The results of the 3rd phase of the National Higher Education Access Competition (CNAES) have been announced today, marking the start of the final placement period for higher education this year. Students who secured a spot in this last phase can begin the enrollment process starting today, September 30, with the enrollment period lasting until October 2. Check the results here.
Increased Opportunities in Polytechnic Institutes
In this 3rd phase, a total of 3,030 spots were available across university and polytechnic courses, providing a final opportunity for students who had not secured placements in previous phases. This phase shows a slight predominance of polytechnic institutes over universities, a trend seen in previous years. Out of 634 courses, only 10 had more than 20 spots available, highlighting the competitive nature of this final round. Notably, the Agronomy course at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém offers the most spots, with 31 available, while the Lisbon School of Nursing has 10 spots open for its nursing program.
Final Chance for Aspiring Students
This phase allows students to compete for 3,030 spots across 634 courses, with 174 courses offering only one spot each, indicating high competition. In the 2nd phase, around eight thousand students were placed, leaving nearly four thousand vacancies. Institutions have the autonomy to decide whether to offer all remaining spots in the next phase, affecting the final number of available places in this 3rd phase.
According to current regulations, the spots in the 3rd phase must be equal to or fewer than the remaining vacancies from the 2nd phase, ensuring that the vacancies offered meet the needs and interests of candidates.
Over 50,000 Students Placed
So far, more than 50,000 students have secured a place in a university or polytechnic course based on the results from the 1st and 2nd phases of the CNAES. In the 1st phase, 49,963 students were placed, with only 45,268 (91%) completing their enrollment, leaving many vacancies unfilled in subsequent phases. In the 2nd phase, about eight thousand students successfully obtained placements.
The results of this 3rd phase conclude the access process to higher education for this academic year, providing a last chance for students waiting for a spot in their desired courses.
Enrollment Process
If you have been placed at an educational institution, do not miss the enrollment deadline; failing to enroll will result in losing your spot. Some institutions offer electronic or in-person enrollment options, so it's best to inquire and choose the method that suits you best.
Make sure to contact the institution—either through their official website, email, or phone—to confirm how enrollments will be organized. Information can also be found on social media platforms.
For enrollment, you will need the following documents: Citizen Card, a color photo (passport size), Health Record (vaccination record) updated with the tetanus vaccine, and any enrollment prerequisites required by the course. If enrolling online, identity verification via Digital Mobile Key might be needed. If you haven't applied for it yet, consider enrolling in person to avoid delays.
Enrollment Fees
Yes, there are fees associated with enrollment, including the enrollment fee and school insurance. These fees vary by institution, typically ranging from 20 to 40 euros for each.
Important Note on Housing Requests
If you plan to stay in the institution's social housing, you must request this during enrollment. The urgency of your request depends on your travel distance; urgent requests might be resolved on the same day, while others may take days or weeks.
In case you cannot secure a spot in the university's housing, you are entitled to housing assistance from the government to help cover costs for private accommodation solutions.
