A Month of Festivities in Lisbon
Music, cinema, masks, and video art will fill the public spaces of Lisbon throughout September, thanks to a series of free events organized by the local council as part of the Festas na Rua.
The festival is set to run from September 7 to 29, featuring nine major concerts, three festivals dedicated to short films, video art, and a piano festival, alongside a parade celebrating the Iberian mask. This initiative is supported by the Cultural Equipment and Animation Management Company (EGEAC) of the Lisbon City Council.
The cultural programming will enliven the city’s green spaces, including gardens, bandstands, squares, and washhouses, showcasing musicians, cinema, orchestras, and national and international artists.
On the opening day, Vale do Silêncio in Olivais will host a concert featuring arias from Carmen by Bizet, Aida and Nabucco by Verdi, and Madama Butterfly by Puccini, performed by the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra. Conducted by Maestro Cesário Costa, this concert will primarily focus on the choral and symphonic repertoire of opera and musicals.
