Harry and Meghan's Luxury Retreat Hit a Snag
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's plans for a luxury vacation retreat in Portugal have encountered an unexpected setback.
Villa Still Under Construction
Reports indicate that their $4.7 million investment in a villa at the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club remains incomplete, delaying any immediate use of the property. This sprawling 722-acre resort, located 81 miles south of Lisbon, is set to feature around 300 residences. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly acquired one of these homes not as a permanent residence, but rather as a holiday retreat.
However, progress on their villa has been slower than anticipated. A source revealed to the Express, "The villa in Portugal is more of an investment than anything else, and construction hasn't even been completed yet." They further emphasized that it was purchased primarily to protect their assets.
Future Plans for the Sussexes
The couple's investment in Portugal has sparked speculation about their future intentions. While they have no current plans to leave their primary residence in California, some reports suggest the Sussexes may be considering a move toward Europe. Former palace aide Grant Harrold speculated that this purchase could signal a desire to reconnect with the royal family. He stated, "Living in the States may not have turned out as they hoped, and this move could hint at edging their way back toward the UK."
Given Portugal's proximity to the UK, it could facilitate Harry's visits with his family. Despite these speculations, it seems unlikely that Harry and Meghan will follow their close friends Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, who have recently relocated to Europe. For now, their incomplete Portuguese villa remains a notable investment awaiting completion.
