Heart-Wrenching Confession: Mother Admits to Attempting to Kill Her 5-Month-Old Baby in Coimbra

A shocking case has emerged from Coimbra, where a 20-year-old mother has confessed to attempting to murder her five-month-old son. The infant, who was already hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the Pediatric Hospital of Coimbra, was the subject of two attempted homicides, as reported by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The first incident occurred on New Year's Eve, followed by another attempt just two days later, resulting in a cardiac arrest of the child. In both instances, the mother obstructed the breathing tube with cotton and paper.

During a judicial interrogation, the mother expressed her intention to kill her son, leading the judge to impose preventive detention and restrict her parental responsibilities. The events took place between December 31, 2024, and January 2, 2025, while the child was undergoing a tracheostomy, a procedure that involves creating an opening in the trachea for easier breathing.

Despite her actions, it was noted that the mother was the one who alerted the medical team about her child's breathing difficulties. The second attempt involved blocking the tube completely with paper, which caused the baby to experience a cardiorespiratory arrest.
