Élvio Sousa's Bold Statements
Élvio Sousa declared today that "the end of Miguel Albuquerque is near" and that the JPP (People's Party of Madeira) is the only regional party capable of dethroning the 48 years of corruption and cronyism of the PSD in Madeira. He emphasized that the JPP comprises qualified men and women who can responsibly manage the destinies and finances of the Madeirans.
Campaign Action at Madeira University
During a campaign event near the University of Madeira, Sousa encouraged voters to choose the JPP for a trustworthy alternative government that is ready to tackle the issues accumulated by the PSD. He criticized the PSD and Albuquerque for no longer governing for the people, stating they are out of touch with the real struggles faced by families, youth, workers, the middle class, seniors, and small businesses.
Addressing Key Issues
Sousa highlighted the JPP's program, which focuses on solving pressing problems for Madeirans and Porto-Santenses, including:
- Health: Reducing waiting lists and speeding up access to consultations, exams, surgeries, and medications.
- Housing: Tackling the crisis of affordable housing for youth and the middle class.
- Cost of Living: Regulating gas prices, reducing maritime transport costs, and reinstating ferry services to lower expenses.
Economic Plans for Improvement
He explained that all these initiatives would be achievable through a well-studied plan to reduce public spending by €60 million. Sousa asserted that this money would be used to enhance incomes, increase salaries, build more housing, efficiently manage healthcare, and create more opportunities for youth and families.
A Call for Change
Sousa described the PSD as a party of the past, associated with corruption, while positioning the JPP as a beacon of hope, present, and future. He stated, "The equinox brings five more minutes of sunlight each day, so on March 23, we will bring more light to the darkness. It’s time for the JPP to govern." He urged voters who do not identify with traditional parties to support the JPP, declaring, "Albuquerque must be ‘swept’ from Quinta Vigia."
