A Heartfelt Initiative by the Italian Community in Algarve
A group of Italian retirees residing in Algarve, specifically in the Sotavento municipalities, has undertaken a significant charitable initiative to raise funds and goods for local health and solidarity institutions.
So far, approximately €7,000 has been collected. These funds will be allocated towards purchasing three computers for the Covid Pavilion at the Tavira Health Centre and providing appliances for an apartment designated for a homeless association in Vila Real de Santo António. The remainder of the funds will be used to buy food for distribution through the “Aces Sotavento” service to needy families.
“With this small gesture, the Italian community of Sotavento wants to demonstrate its total solidarity with this area of the Algarve that welcomes us and suffers from this terrible pandemic,” stated a press release from the Italian Retirees Association in Portugal. The community has deep roots in the municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira, and Vila Real de Santo António.
Last year, this same association raised about €20,000, which was used to provide protective health materials against Covid-19 to various health centers in the area and the Faro Hospital.
