Summary:

  • Élvio Sousa calls for early elections on February 23rd.

  • JPP is prepared to run with its own candidates and form coalitions post-elections.

  • Key priorities include reducing living costs, cutting public spending, and building affordable housing.

JPP Advocates for Early Elections

The Secretary-General of JPP, Élvio Sousa, stated today during a meeting with the Republic's representative that the only scenario in the current political landscape is to hold early elections. He urged for the acceleration of party consultations and emphasized that the voting should take place as soon as possible. Sousa suggested that the ideal date for the elections would be February 23rd, just before Carnival, which would push the elections to March.

JPP's Political Ambitions

Élvio Sousa confirmed that his party will run with its own lists, but is open to forming a coalition with other parties post-elections to establish a Regional Government. JPP aims to lead the Madeiran executive and is prepared with two candidates who can govern: himself and Filipe Sousa. Sousa stressed that governing the region is easier than managing the Lisbon City Council, stating, "It’s not a monster. It just requires responsibility and honesty."

Priorities for Governance

Currently, JPP is updating its government program, which will prioritize:

  • Reducing the cost of living in Madeira
  • Cutting public expenditure
  • Building affordable housing
  • Enhancing autonomous powers

These initiatives reflect JPP's commitment to addressing key issues affecting the region.
