A New Era for Immigrant Support in Lisbon

The first immigrant support center by the Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum (AIMA) officially opened its doors on Monday in Telheiras, Lisbon. Operating from 8 AM to 10 PM, this center is staffed with approximately 100 employees dedicated to addressing over 400,000 pending cases.

On the opening day, by 10 AM, the center had already assisted ten immigrants, all of whom had pre-scheduled appointments. This facility, located in the Hindu Center, also served as a vaccination site during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In August, António Leitão Amaro, the Minister of the Presidency, announced plans for the opening of several such centers throughout September. The new center will not only provide language support but also collaborate with structures from the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP), Social Security, and various immigrant support associations.

This initiative marks a significant step in aiding the immigrant community in Portugal, aiming to streamline processes and enhance support systems.
