Executive Director of SNS Considers Centralizing Maternal and Pediatric Emergencies

In a recent interview with Expresso, António Gandra D´Almeida, the Executive Director of the National Health Service (SNS), expressed openness to the idea of consolidating maternal and pediatric emergency services in the Lisbon area. This potential shift is contingent upon recommendations from a new committee dedicated to this sector.

Gandra D´Almeida indicated a willingness to revisit the plans set forth by the previous executive team, aiming to enhance the network of obstetric and pediatric emergencies in the region.

"A new committee has been established, and changes are on the horizon. My stance is not rigid. We must find a solution. If consolidating these emergencies and reinforcing one of the network points is the way forward, then we shall proceed accordingly," he stated, marking his first interview since taking office in May.
