Two Arrested at Lisbon Airport for Cocaine Trafficking

A 40-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman have been arrested at Lisbon Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking, with authorities seizing an astonishing 113,500 doses of cocaine. The operation, conducted by the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon (Cometlis), took place on August 30, 2024, at 11:20 AM.

According to police sources, the suspects arrived on a flight from Brazil. Although the passengers initially appeared to meet border control criteria, police decided to conduct a secondary inspection due to perceived risks during the mandatory control procedures.

Upon further investigation, it became evident that the passengers were concealing cocaine in their luggage. After being arrested, the suspects were formally charged and placed in custody, where they were provisionally detained following their first judicial interrogation.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking routes from South America to Europe, particularly through major transport hubs like Lisbon.
