A significant police operation conducted by the Public Security Police (PSP) in Oeiras and Amadora led to the arrest of four individuals this past Monday. This operation is notably connected to the riots that erupted following the death of Odair Moniz, which occurred at the end of October.
Among those arrested, two suspects are believed to be involved in the riots that followed Moniz's tragic death.
Details of the Operation
According to the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, the operation aimed to execute seven search warrants and four arrest warrants. Commissioner Thó Monteiro provided insights into the operation, revealing that one suspect had not been located until around 11:30 AM but was subsequently detained.
“We managed to conduct operations to ascertain the whereabouts of the fourth individual. He has now been arrested and is currently being taken to the criminal investigation station,” Monteiro stated.
Background of the Case
The suspects, aged between 18 and 30, are also implicated in an attempted murder and aggravated robbery case. The deceased, Odair Moniz, a 43-year-old Cape Verdean residing in the Zambujal neighborhood of Amadora, was shot by a PSP officer on the night of October 21 in the Cova da Moura neighborhood. Following this incident, several nights of unrest were reported across various neighborhoods in Greater Lisbon.
