Cyber Attack on the Navegante App
The Navegante mobile application, essential for users in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area to top up their public transport passes, faced a massive cyber attack this Monday, causing significant disruptions to the service.
According to a statement released on the Navegante platform's website, which is managed by the Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML), the company responsible for the pass system across various public transport modes in the capital, they are working diligently to restore all services as soon as possible. They expressed their regret for the inconveniences caused.
A TML source revealed that there was a “attempt to access user data,” but the platform's website continues to function normally since it does not have a private area.
Furthermore, the source confirmed that authorities were notified on the same day, and the protocol for such situations was activated.
Currently, the cyber attack is impacting only the application, although there were some constraints reported in the stores where citizens can also top up their passes. This incident is particularly concerning as it coincides with the beginning of a new month and the new academic year, when foot traffic in stores typically increases.
