Major Investment in Portuguese Kiwis

The Mercadona supermarket chain has significantly increased its investment in Portuguese kiwi, purchasing over 5,000 tons in 2023 alone. This marks a 100% growth in their purchases over the past five years, as they bought only 2,500 tons in 2019. This growth has made Kiwi GreenSun, based in Guimarães, one of Mercadona's largest suppliers.

Commitment to Quality

Vitor Araújo, Director of Kiwi GreenSun, emphasizes the healthy relationship developed with Mercadona, stating that they have met the supermarket's high standards for fruit quality. Pedro Barraco, Mercadona’s Agro-Food Chain Director, notes the importance of their strategic partnerships with local suppliers like Kiwi GreenSun, which have helped increase agricultural production and contribute positively to the local economy.

Sustainable Growth Initiatives

To support this growth, Kiwi GreenSun has invested in modernizing its factory, including building two new stores, updating production lines, and installing solar panels for energy autonomy from May to September. This move not only enhances their production capabilities but also aligns with sustainable practices in agriculture.
