Fire Breaks Out at Martos Company

A fire broke out at the Martos wood company in Colmeias, Leiria district, at around 4:25 PM today, mobilizing over 30 firefighters from various regional brigades. The company has been operational for over 30 years, specializing in the national wood market, including pallets and pellets for heating, located in the Areias Industrial Zone.

Emergency Response

As of 5:20 PM, 33 firefighters from Leiria, Maceira, and Pombal were on site. According to the Leiria Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection, it is currently not possible to assess the situation as the materials involved are combustible, and firefighting efforts may take several hours. There are no reports of blocked roads.

Increased Firefighting Efforts

By 7 PM, the number of responders rose to 55, supported by 21 vehicles from various brigades. At 8 PM, the operational count increased to 66 firefighters with 27 vehicles, with the situation reported as “favorable” and the fire being “confined.”

The facility was actively working in the morning before the fire alarm was raised, resulting in the complete loss of the pavilion to the flames.
