Impact of the Strike
The Union has announced a total strike on December 31 and January 1, demanding the payment of an annual performance bonus from the operator ViaPorto, part of the Barraqueiro Group. The strike will also affect operations on December 30 and January 2, as workers will be refusing to perform overtime work.
On New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, typically busy times for the metro service, workers will strike all services. The SMAQ emphasizes that the reasons for this strike are consistent with previous strikes held between December 17 and 22.
Union's Demands
The SMAQ claims that the strike is due to ViaPorto's failure to comply with the Company Agreement, specifically regarding the promised annual bonus for 2023. Additionally, the union is advocating for improvements in working conditions for drivers and the regularization of compensatory rests.
In response, ViaPorto stated that the union is ignoring the company’s financial reality, which is currently unstable and awaiting resolution of financial balance processes involving Metro do Porto SA and the Portuguese State.
