On Friday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere reported a magnitude 3.7 earthquake at 1:29 PM, with its epicenter located approximately 12 km North-Northeast of Vendas Novas.

According to preliminary information, the earthquake did not cause any personal injuries or material damage. It was felt with a maximum intensity of III/IV on the modified Mercalli scale in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo (Évora).

Response from Local Authorities
Rúben Rosário, from the Vendas Novas volunteer firefighters, confirmed that they received several calls requesting information. However, there are currently no reports of damage or victims, and no emergency services have been activated.

Wider Effects
The tremor was also felt with lesser intensity in the municipalities of Mora, Redondo, Vendas Novas (Évora), Leiria, Arruda dos Vinhos, Cascais (Lisbon), and Coruche (Santarém).

The IPMA has stated, “If the situation warrants, new communications will be issued.”
