Thayla Pereira, a Brazilian student from the University of Aveiro, has been found after going missing since December. Authorities discovered the 26-year-old in Lisbon on Saturday, January 25th, after she was spotted sleeping in a train station in Porto. Initially, she was reported to be disoriented and hungry, having lived on the streets. She has since been taken to Santa Maria Hospital for treatment.

Thayla was found with a man who fled upon seeing the police. A compassionate officer bought her food to ease her anxiety and called an ambulance for immediate medical assistance due to her hunger and dehydration. According to a friend, Thayla spent 40 days on the streets and was in a state of confusion, often crying.

Despite her ordeal, she was reluctant to be accompanied by the police but appreciated their kindness. She reportedly cannot recall where or when she disappeared. Currently, she is under observation at the hospital, where she will receive medication until her mental health stabilizes.

Thayla has expressed a desire to return home after video calling her family, although she did not recognize one of her sisters. Her family is now working to raise funds for her return to Brazil, where she had moved in October 2024 on a scholarship to study Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Aveiro. Her disappearance coincided with her struggles with financial difficulties, reported on December 15, 2024.
