New Green Train Pass: Key Details and Restrictions

The Green Train Pass will come at a cost of €20, €40, or €60, but it comes with several restrictions. According to a document from CP cited by Lusa, the pass can only be used on Intercidades, Interregionais, and select urban trains. Additionally, a mandatory seat reservation is required for Intercidades, which can be done at physical ticket offices and online. Reservations through the CP app are expected to be available early next year.

Restrictions on the Pass

The pass is not valid on Alfa Pendular services, International Celta, or in first class on Intercidades and Interregionais. Other limitations include:

  • Reservations can only be made 24 hours in advance.
  • A maximum of two distinct trips can be reserved per day.

Pricing and Usage

The €20 pass allows for 30 consecutive days of use, while 60 and 90-day passes are available for €40 and €60, respectively. The pass is non-transferable and non-refundable. In case of train cancellations or delays attributable to CP, users must refer to the current conditions for passes and subscriptions.

Areas of Validity

The pass enables travel on all urban trains in Coimbra, but only outside the metropolitan areas in Lisbon and Porto. For instance, in Lisbon, travel is permitted on the route from Carregado to Azambuja, while in Porto, valid routes include Vila das Aves to Guimarães, Paredes to Marco de Canaveses, Paramos to Aveiro, and Lousado to Braga.

The Green Train Pass replaces the previous National Train Pass (PFN), expanding its usage to additional services without the possibility of combining it with other discounts.
