They noted that to **minimize the impact** of service interruptions and delays, some ferries would depart as soon as they reached maximum passenger capacity, regardless of the scheduled times.

**CM** is seeking further clarification from the company, which advises passengers to check their website for updates on upcoming departures.

**Luis Newton**, the leader of the PSD municipal group, criticized the debate as a coordinated action by the left ahead of the **2025 local elections**. On Tuesday morning, **numerous Finance services** across Portugal had to close temporarily due to a **general meeting** of employees from the **Tax and Customs Authority (AT)**, held via videoconference. The meeting began at 9 AM and was expected to last until 1 PM.

Organized by the **Tax Workers Union (STI)**, the meeting aimed to address the concerns of tax professionals and discuss the **demands for the upcoming year**. By noon, around **4,000 participants** had logged in from all over the country, leading to significant disruptions in various offices, according to union sources.

### Office Closures
According to a preliminary list compiled by the STI, nearly **60 offices** were closed due to employee participation in the union action. While some employees remained in the offices, they were unable to assist the public as they were engaged in the online meeting, either in groups or through their work devices. In other locations, services remained open but operated at reduced capacity, with only a few employees available to assist citizens.

### Key Demands
The **demands presented** for discussion included **18 points**, emphasizing the need for the AT to strengthen its workforce, improve job recognition, and enhance career prospects. The union argues that these changes are crucial for effectively combating **tax fraud**, **economic crime**, and the **underground economy**.

Among the primary demands are:
- **Salary increases** that reflect the essential functions of state workers in tax collection.
- A call for **10% annual raises** starting January 1, 2025, to ensure that tax workers do not fall behind compared to other sectors.
- The establishment of a **special career path** for AT leaders, with salaries comparable to high-ranking officials in other state authorities.

### New Lighting at Lisbon's Bus Stops

**The lack of lighting** at bus stops has been a recurring issue discussed in Lisbon's city council meetings. Now, some shelters are finally receiving **illumination**. The concessionaire has assured that the lighting will be implemented "as quickly as possible".

**Shelters where we wait for buses**, often in the dark, are starting to be equipped with lights. According to *Mensagem de Lisboa*, which highlighted the community's concerns about safety in poorly lit waiting areas, all new bus stops in the city will now have lighting. This initiative, proposed by the advertising concessionaire JC Decaux, will see lights installed on the upper panels of each structure as soon as possible.

So far, installation has occurred at a **limited number of stops**, including one on Rua 1º de Maio, near the new Health Center in Alcântara, and others at the bus terminal in Cais do Sodré. The next phase will focus on stops served by **night buses**, aiming to ensure safety and comfort for passengers.

Pedro Nave, head of the Pedestrian Accessibility Plan Division of Lisbon, expressed satisfaction with the widespread adaptation of the shelters, emphasizing that **lighting conditions** at bus stops are critical for people to feel safe. Currently, the only light at many stops comes from public street lamps or advertising panels.

This improvement follows a proposal from the **Left Bloc**, which called for the urgent implementation of a lighting system at bus stops before the transition to **winter hours** on October 27. The proposal was approved on July 24, despite the mayor, Carlos Moedas, pointing out "errors in the specifications" of the contract with JC Decaux. Nevertheless, it will be the company's responsibility to finance and install the lighting structures.

Lisbon Bus Stops Get a Bright Upgrade: New Lighting Installed

**Lisbon Police (PSP)** have apprehended a **40-year-old man** suspected of committing **six burglaries** in local homes and accommodations since the beginning of the year. The suspect gained entry through **scaling or breaking in**, stealing the most valuable items he could find.  

According to the PSP, the **stolen items are valued at €103,500**, with additional damages amounting to **€12,700**.  

The man is also believed to be part of a **gang** responsible for robbing **two jewelry stores** in 2023, with these thefts yielding over **€500,000**. He is currently in **preventive custody**.
