Estimated Damages Exceed €2.85 Million

On August 16, more than 200 vehicles were destroyed in a fire at the industrial area of Prior Velho, located near Lisbon Airport. This incident occurred at a parking lot owned by a passenger vehicle collection company. According to the Portuguese Association of Insurers (APS), the estimated costs of compensations paid and reserved for the damages related to the affected vehicles have now surpassed €2.85 million.

Rising Claims

As of now, the number of claims received by insurance companies concerning vehicles with fire coverage has exceeded 120. The APS notes that the total value is expected to increase significantly as more claims are submitted and all insured damages are assessed.

Dedicated Teams for Quick Resolution

Several insurance companies have established dedicated teams to manage this incident efficiently, ensuring rapid processing of related claims. However, the APS does not have information regarding the causes of the fire or any potential liabilities that might cover these responsibilities or other property damages.

Generali Tranquilidade's Response

Last week, Generali Tranquilidade announced the creation of a specialized team to address this event as part of a specific action plan. This plan has already enabled them to resolve 75% of the reported claims (37) within just seven business days, with compensation payments already made.

Investigation Underway

The fire, which did not result in personal injuries or spread to nearby warehouses, broke out around 6 PM on August 16. The Judicial Police are currently investigating the causes of the fire.

The APS will provide updates as new information becomes available.
