Communist Struggle Against Injustice
At the opening of the XXII Congress of the PCP this Friday in Almada, the party's Secretary-General, Paulo Raimundo, emphasized the communist fight against injustices and inequalities. He stressed the importance of combating ideological conditioning and control mechanisms that promote anti-communism, racism, and hatred.

In his speech, Raimundo declared, "Here we look at life and the evolution of the situation from the interests of the working class and the oppressed. Here we do not assimilate; instead, we combat the interests and ideology of capital."
He reaffirmed the party's commitment to transforming society, stating they aim to break with injustices and inequalities and pave the way for a better alternative for the country. He highlighted the desire for peace and democracy, wanting to carry forward the values of the April Revolution into Portugal's future.
Global Ideological Control
Raimundo warned that global mechanisms of ideological conditioning are intensifying, rooted in powerful economic groups that control media and digital networks, seeking to impose a singular way of thinking and obscure the realities of capitalism.
He stated, "They want to hide the exploitation of workers, the oppression of peoples, the brutality of war, and the plundering of natural resources. They aim to promote anti-communism, racism, hatred, and reactionary and fascist ideas."
Ignoring this offensive would be not only naive but also dangerous, he cautioned.
Call for Unity Against Right-Wing Policies
Raimundo called for a wider convergence of democrats and patriots, respecting diverse viewpoints to break away from right-wing policies. He emphasized, "The patriotic and leftist alternative is the great battle we are all called to fight. The PCP will dedicate all its efforts to breaking from right-wing politics and achieving the rights and living conditions denied to workers and the people."
Criticism of Government Collaborations
Raimundo criticized the complicity of the Socialist Party (PS) with the government's policies, stating that one cannot remain neutral in the current national context. He condemned the 2025 State Budget, supported by the PS's abstention, as a tool for big capital interests that threatens workers' rights.
He remarked that the budget "impoverishes the poor and enriches the rich", particularly criticizing a reduction in corporate tax that would funnel more funds to economic groups already profiting significantly.
A New Era for the PCP
This congress marks Raimundo's first as Secretary-General after his election in November 2022. The event will host around 1,040 delegates and will include discussions on solidarity with Palestine and workers' struggles.
On Saturday, the election for the next Central Committee is scheduled, which is the highest body between congresses.
