Summary:

  • Paulo Raimundo accuses PS and PSD of causing Lisbon's urban decline.

  • Lisbon is described as a city that thrives on propaganda.

  • Raimundo critiques the management of the city by the socialists and social democrats.

  • The event was part of the CDU de Lisboa initiative "For the Right to the City".

Accusations Against Political Rivals

The General Secretary of the PCP, Paulo Raimundo, made strong accusations this Saturday against the PS and PSD parties, holding them responsible for the "backwardness of the city" of Lisbon. He expressed his views during a gathering at the Centro Cultural de Carnide, following an event organized by the CDU de Lisboa titled "For the Right to the City". Raimundo's remarks were echoed by João Ferreira, the coalition's candidate for the upcoming municipal elections.

Lisbon: A City of Propaganda

Raimundo described Lisbon as a city that heavily relies on propaganda, stating, "I don't know if it's the central government that learned the propaganda techniques from the municipal chamber, or if it's the municipal chamber reflecting the government's propaganda back at them." He emphasized that while both entities may have effective teams and spend significant amounts of money, the reality is that people's lives are still deteriorating despite the flashy narratives.

Root Causes of Urban Issues

After various speeches highlighting the city's pressing issues, Raimundo pointed out that the root causes of these problems stem from the management practices of the socialists and social democrats. The implication is clear: without a shift in leadership and approach, Lisbon's challenges will persist.
