Summary:

  • Pedro Nuno Santos warns of political instability if Luís Montenegro wins the elections.

  • Santos emphasizes the need for stability and a new project to address issues facing Portugal.

  • Polls show mixed results, with some favoring both AD and PS.

  • The PS National Political Commission will meet to approve candidate lists for the elections.

Political Instability Concerns

Pedro Nuno Santos, the Secretary-General of the PS, argues that Portugal's political stability is at risk if Luís Montenegro wins the upcoming early legislative elections. He emphasized that the government would remain under a cloud of suspicion with Montenegro as Prime Minister.

Call for Stability

In statements made to journalists in Castelo Branco, Santos expressed, "It's important to achieve stability and close this chapter. We won't succeed if Montenegro wins; the government will continue to be overshadowed by serious allegations."

Polls and Political Strategy

When asked about polls indicating a potential victory for the AD, Santos responded that "there are polls for all tastes," noting some also favor the PS. He stressed the need to present an alternative project and mentioned ongoing roundtable discussions with PS leaders and independents to formulate a political response to the issues facing the Portuguese people.

Upcoming National Political Meeting

The National Political Commission of the PS will meet on Wednesday to approve the candidate lists for the upcoming elections. The meeting's agenda, signed by Santos, focuses solely on this approval.

According to the National Elections Commission (CNE), candidate submissions are due by April 7 to the presiding judge of the electoral district's court.
