Pollution Incident at Cabanas Velhas Beach
A pollution outbreak was detected on Saturday at Cabanas Velhas Beach, located in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, Algarve. The cause of this incident remains unknown, as revealed by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) on Sunday.
According to the AMN, the alert was raised by lifeguards on duty at the beach, who reported the presence of pollution on both the sand and in the water. As a result, elements from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos were dispatched to the scene.
The Maritime Police confirmed the situation and subsequently contacted the Southern Maritime Department and the Marine Pollution Control Directorate, activating the third level of readiness of the Clean Sea Plan.
Due to the tide and limited visibility, the collection of the polluting material could only take place on the morning of the following day. Authorities also conducted patrols on adjacent beaches, noting the presence of pollutant material in smaller quantities at Boca do Rio Beach.
