Portugal to Host the Exciting 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura!

Portugal Chosen for 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships

World Sailing has officially selected Vilamoura Sailing as the host for the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships, scheduled from December 12 to 20, 2025.

For over 50 years, this prestigious event has served as a platform for young sailing talents to showcase their skills, often leading to careers as world and Olympic champions.

The championships will follow a format similar to the Olympic sailing, featuring 11 events across male, female, and mixed categories. Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 19 as of December 31, 2025.

Quanhai Li, President of World Sailing, emphasized the significance of this event, stating, "The Youth Sailing World Championships have long been one of the most important events in the World Sailing calendar and an important showcase for emerging talent."

World Sailing CEO David Graham also expressed excitement about the event's growth, noting participation from over 400 sailors across 70 countries in recent years.

The Organising Committee includes Vilamoura Sailing, Marina de Vilamoura, the City of Loulé, and the Portuguese Sailing Federation. To prepare for the championship, a series of preparatory events, including the Youth Portugal Grand Prix, will take place, providing sailors with valuable competitive experience leading up to the main event:

• 1st Youth Portugal Grand Prix, Round 1: December 18-20, 2024
• 1st Youth Portugal Grand Prix, Round 2: April 5-7, 2025
• 2nd Youth Portugal Grand Prix, Round 1: December 2-5, 2025

Sustainability Initiatives

The 2025 championships will prioritize sustainability, with facilities powered by solar energy, a focus on eliminating single-use plastics, and a commitment to digital communication to reduce paper waste. Eco-friendly transportation options will also be encouraged, along with the reuse of materials for future events.
