Record Highs in Portugal's Higher Education Admissions: Are You Among the Accepted?

Portugal's Highest Medical Admission Score

The Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto has recorded the highest admission score for Medicine at 185.5. The lowest scores for admission are primarily found in the interior regions of the country.

Top Courses by Admission Scores

The Space Engineering courses at the University of Porto and the University of Minho have the highest access averages, at 194.5 and 191.4, respectively. Following closely, the Applied Mathematics for Economics and Management program at the Institute of Economics and Management at the University of Lisbon has an average of 189.

Interestingly, Medicine ranks as the eighth highest admission score, surpassed by Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the University of Porto (187.5), Aerospace Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon (187.3), Industrial Management Engineering from the University of Porto (186.3), and Architecture from the same university (186).

Low Admission Scores

The course with the lowest access average is Business Management (part-time) at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, with a score of 90.5. Other low-scoring programs include Social Education (95), Public Administration (95), Pharmacy (95), and several others, all scoring below 100.

Increase in Student Placements

According to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, out of 58,301 candidates, 49,963 were placed in Portuguese universities and polytechnics, marking a 1.1% increase from last year. 85.7% of candidates secured placements, with 56% achieving their first choice. However, from the 54,666 available spots, 4,996 remain for the second phase, the lowest since 1999.

Critical Areas: Education and Medicine

The number of students placed in Basic Education degrees has risen by 8% compared to last year, filling 100% of available spots (997). In Medicine, 1,661 students were placed, the highest number ever recorded.

Upcoming Dates

The application process for the second phase of admissions starts this Monday and runs until September 4. Enrollments for those accepted in this first phase will take place from this Monday through Thursday.
