Rogério Bacalhau Remains Mayor of Faro Until February 10

Rogério Bacalhau will continue as the President of the Câmara de Faro until February 10, when the General Assembly of Águas do Algarve is rescheduled. This meeting was initially set for last Monday and will include a vote on Bacalhau's appointment as the new President of the Board of Directors for the company.

According to Sul Informação, Bacalhau was expected to start his new role this week after his name was voted on - which is likely to be approved since it was proposed by Águas de Portugal, the majority shareholder of Águas do Algarve. However, the meeting has been postponed by about a month.

Today, on the 16th, Bacalhau confirmed to our newspaper that the General Assembly has been rescheduled for February 10. "As soon as my name is approved, I plan to start my duties at Águas do Algarve the following day," he stated.

Last week, Bacalhau shared that he only accepted the offer from Águas de Portugal because he believes he is leaving the municipality "in order" with less than a year remaining in his third and final term as the top official of the municipality.

He initially declined the invitation before the summer of 2024 but accepted it later in the year after the municipal budget was prepared and voted on. Bacalhau noted, "I leave the 2025 Budget approved and the main decisions made. What is in progress will continue. My vice president, Paulo Santos, has been with me since the first term and has been a councilor since 2002. He knows the workings well. The rest of the team will also continue, so I believe all conditions are met for everything to go as planned."

The postponement of the General Assembly of Águas do Algarve simply means that Bacalhau will remain in the Câmara for a few more weeks.
