Highlights from Today's Edition of the DIÁRIO

Companies linked to detainees generated €3.2 million from public entities. Over the past four years, 98.6% of the 74 contracts were awarded without public tender, primarily through direct adjustment and prior consultation. Notably, two-thirds of these contracts are not under investigation. The Secretary of Agriculture and IASaúde are the main contractors involved in the ‘Ab Initio’ Operation, while the Calheta City Council does not rank among the top ten contractors.

Additionally, the PGR errors in communicating investigation dates. The Lisbon District Attorney's Office stated on Tuesday that the judicial investigations pertained to bidding procedures from 2014 to 2020, while the search warrants referenced a different period. Upon inquiry from the DIÁRIO, the PGR admitted the mistake and updated the timeframe to 2020-2024. The defendants are being heard today, and coercive measures could force elections and appointments. More than 50 investigators from the ‘Ab Initio’ Operation have returned to Lisbon.

Other Highlights:

  • Construction and Real Estate are experiencing the best year in the last 12, with licensed housing in 2023 up 51% and completed projects rising significantly.
  • Lastly, the Secretary-General of PSD-Madeira is implicated in the ‘Ab Initio’ Operation.
