Seven Injured in Knife Fight on Rua do Benformoso

Seven individuals were injured during a violent altercation involving foreign nationals on Rua do Benformoso. This incident marks a significant escalation of violence in the area.

According to police reports, the conflict, which occurred on December 19, was due to unknown reasons and has resulted in three people being transported to São José Hospital. The other four victims received medical assistance at the 1st Division headquarters, where they arrived on their own for treatment by INEM technicians.

Initial reports indicate that one victim was stabbed in a lower limb, while another suffered a stab wound to the lower back. In response to the incident, police presence in the area has been increased, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

This altercation comes just days after a special criminal prevention operation was conducted by the PSP in the same location, aimed at enhancing public safety and security. This operation has drawn criticism from various sectors of society for allegedly targeting the immigrant population.

On December 11, simultaneous protests were held at Martim Moniz, reflecting contrasting views on immigration and security: one group criticized police actions towards immigrants, while another rallied in support of law enforcement.

Notably, political figure André Ventura commented on the recent violence, sarcastically noting the recurring issues of fights and stabbings in the area, hinting at the growing tensions surrounding these incidents.
