Algarve Under Orange Alert for Heavy Rain
The Faro district is under an orange alert for heavy precipitation starting from 6 PM this Thursday until noon on Friday. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) warns of potential heavy showers, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Additionally, six districts on the mainland will be under a yellow alert due to expected showers, also possibly heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms. These districts include Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre, all under yellow alert from noon Thursday until midnight Friday. The yellow alert for Beja will be in effect from noon Thursday to noon Friday.
In the Azores archipelago, the IPMA has issued a yellow alert for potential heavy rain. In the Western group of islands, which includes Flores and Corvo, the yellow alert for "occasionally heavy precipitation, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms" is valid from 3 PM local time (4 PM in Lisbon) on Thursday until midnight Friday.
For the Central group of islands (including Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa, and Terceira), the same alert will be in effect from 9 PM Thursday to noon Friday. In the Eastern group of islands (including São Miguel and Santa Maria), the yellow alert for occasionally heavy rain will be active from 3 AM Friday until midnight Saturday.
The yellow alert, which is the least severe on a three-tier scale, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for specific weather-dependent activities.
