All districts in mainland Portugal will be under alert starting this Friday due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja, and Faro are under an orange alert, indicating a serious weather risk, while the remaining 14 districts are under a yellow alert, including Madeira.
Alert Details
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the orange alert for Faro and Beja will be in effect from 3 AM to 3 PM on Friday, while Lisbon and Setúbal will be under the same alert from 6 AM to 12 PM. After these times, alerts will shift to yellow.
The orange alert is issued when there is a moderate to high risk weather situation, while the yellow alert indicates potential risks for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
Yellow Alert Across the Country
A yellow alert will be active across all of mainland Portugal starting from 3 AM on Friday, lasting until 3 PM in Bragança and Guarda, and extending until 9 PM in Braga, Coimbra, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Porto, and Viseu. In districts such as Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Beja, Leiria, Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal, and Évora, the yellow alert will continue through Saturday, in some cases until 9 PM.
Thunderstorm Warnings
The IPMA has also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms starting at 3 AM on Friday in Faro and Beja, lasting until at least 3 PM. For Thursday, the IPMA forecasts a very cloudy sky with possible light showers, gentle winds, and a drop in temperature, especially the minimum.
