Arrest in the Azores

The Judicial Police of the Azores have arrested a woman and a man, suspected of qualified homicide, which occurred in Terceira Island in August 2024. The victim, a 54-year-old man, was the woman's husband.

Mysterious Death

The man passed away on the morning of August 16, and at that time, his death was attributed to natural causes, particularly due to his health issues, including renal failure. However, subsequent information received in October raised suspicions of foul play, prompting the initiation of an investigation.

Investigation and Autopsy

Following thorough investigations, which included the exhumation of the body and a subsequent forensic autopsy, it was confirmed that the victim had been murdered by strangulation.

Arrests Made

In light of the new findings and strong evidence of co-authorship, both the 45-year-old widow and a 37-year-old male relative, who was allegedly hired to commit the crime, were arrested.

Legal Proceedings

The detainees have been presented to the court for their initial questioning, and both are currently under preventive detention as a precautionary measure.
