A Disturbing Encounter in Lisbon
A 25-year-old taxi driver attempted to charge an exorbitant fare of 70 euros to a 73-year-old foreign woman for a ride from Lisbon Airport to Carcavelos. This amount is reported by the police to be "substantially higher" than the standard fare for that route.
When the elderly passenger was unable to pay the full amount, as she only had 40 euros, the driver took the drastic step of abandoning her in a desolate area as a form of retaliation. The victim was left without any of her belongings, including her mobile phone, which were taken inside the vehicle.
The woman felt fearful for her life due to the late hour, her unfamiliarity with the area, and her inability to speak Portuguese. Fortunately, the PSP (Public Security Police) managed to recover some of her belongings afterward.
